https: (that way round, please) this is fine because the SSL implementation
at your end can presumably talk to a proxy and use the "CONNECT" method,
which allows you to send raw data as with any tcp connection. (this is
the only way in which proxying firewalls can work). In this case, the
connection is end-to-end encrypted (ie. the encryption is negotiated
between your machine and the remote webserver (assuming you check certs
etc)) with the proxy only acting as a transport layer.
Not that I'm advocating the use of such a firewall, but it's important to
note that from the inside, these protocols are still accessible.
