Simon,
i am not so sure about explicit mentioning of Weber but The Dialectic of
Reason is an excellent place to start as well as discussions of
reification in Aesthetic Theory (developed from Lukacs' HCC). Also, the
chapter Avante-garde in Intro. to the Sociology of Music may be helpful.
The classic development of Weber remains, however, Lukacs (in HCC and
Theory of the Novel).
