Coningsby Club
Drinks Reception

Michael Pritchett, on behalf of the Coningsby Club, cordially invites
you to drinks in the Dining Room at the Cambridge Union Society.

Wednesday 18th June 2008, 6pm-8.30pm.

The Coningsby Club is a dining club founded in 1921 to help keep
Conservative-minded students from Oxbridge and Cambridge in touch with
each other and with the Conservative cause. Meetings involve dinner
with a famous speaker, usually of Shadow Cabinet level or leader of a
major national or international institution.

If you are interested in joining, but unable to attend the drinks, please
email events at coningsbyclub.co.uk

Further information

The Coningsby Club represents the best way for people from Oxford and
Cambridge to dine with distinguished public figures including the
shadow cabinet and also keep in touch with friends made in politics in
University.

Holding events in London, recent guests at dinners have included
Michael Howard, George Osborne and John Major. There is also a
tradition of inviting senior guests such as the current governor of
the Bank of England and Archbishop of Canterbury or media magnates
such as Lord Saatchi.

Founded in 1921, the Coningsby is one of the longest established
Conservative dining societies. Ex Chairmen include Austen
Chamberlain, William Rees-Mogg, Christopher Tugendhat, Nigel Lawson
and Michael Howard.

Dinners are subsidised so as to keep the cost down. The only other
cost is a small membership fee to cover the cost of mailing out
invitations. The dinners and drinks before and after offer a unique
chance to meet personally and have discussions with leading public
figures and young Oxford and Cambridge alumni in London.

The Coningsby also organises a few more social events - a recent
example was our tutored wine tasting at Sothebys where we drank wines
such as Gruaud Larose 88 and ate like kings!

Nearly every well known Cambridge politician has gone on to the
Coningsby Club after CUCA, and there is also a large young less
politically active membership.
