Yes, it was indeed in the back of my mind that I needed to be calling
this Jewish-Christian, esp. once I mentioned similarities in moral
thinking between the Hebrew Scriptures (really, the books of prophecy)
and Marx.
The real question is, do we understand historical-materialism
historically, or do we just call it "truth"?
I'm not sure that liberalization and secularization happened anywhere
else in the world the way it happened in Europe. Seems like it's
either been an immediate change through violent revolution (which was
part of the change in Europe as well) or the change has not yet been
made.
