Dear Frankfurt Schoolers,

I'm looking for information on the reception of Habermas in China. He
went on a lecture trip of the country in 2001, and this generated
much interest amongst Chinese intellectuals, and I understand that
they have translated and discussed him extensively since.

However, sofar I have found very little on these debates in Western
secondary literature - the only title I know of is actually by one of
his Chinese translators (Tong Shijun, The Dialectics of
Modernisation: Habermas and the Chinese Discourse of Modernisation,
2001).

Hence I was wondering whether subscribers to this list may know of
any discussions of the Chinese Habermas reception (or, for that
matter, the Chinese Rawls reception). Especially, I'm interested in
(i) how Habermas/Rawls' thought may have been used/mobilised by
Chinese intellectuals for their own, indigenous concerns & agendas;
and how (ii) these bodies of thought may in this process have been
reformulated.

Thanks a lot for any help,

Nicholas
