If that's the case, Ken, Lacan would hardly be the "one theorist singled
out for particular disdain and disregard." Derrida's won that award.
I've barely probed Lacan and have little sympathy for psychoanalytic
frameworks to begin with, so I'm not contributing to this discussion.
However, Zizek was mentioned and he has recently written an interesting
piece on Iraq:

I think that's the right link. I don't have my bookmarks with me right
now. If it doesn't work, I'll post the correct one later. Overall he
takes both the hawks and the doves to task and concludes that the real
danger is that American will turn into what it fears and opposes in the
process of its fear and opposition. I don't usually follow Zizek, but I
think he made some valuable observations this time.
