CALL FOR PAPERS

The International Brain Mobility in the Process of Globalisation
 (July 28,30, 1998, Montreal, Canada)

The international mobility of scholars, students and scientists has become
a common phenomenon in the modern world. This phenomenon, known before as
'brain drain', has taken new dimensions and significances under the impact
of economic and cultural globalisation. Compared to the brain drain
problematics the nowadays' mobility of highly educated and skilled
individuals embodies more complex cultural, aspirational, symbolic,
political, economic and value-related problems. The rising new 'cultural
and politico-economic world order' in North-South relations as well as
between Western and Eastern Europe has shown the need for a new
sociological approach and analysis of the causes and consequences of
expatriation, movement and migration of highly educated persons.

Colleagues working on this subject will gather and present their works in
AdHoc sessions (July 28, 30, 1998) in the World Congress of Sociology to be
held in Montreal, Canada, July 26 - August 1, 1998. We invite all those
wishing to participate in our sessions by submitting papers. Among the
various issues which could be addressed: (1) The international circulation
of intellectual and scientific ideas; (2) From brain drain to brain
mobility; (3) The knowledge market and the input of expatriate scientists
and scholars; (4) Expatriation of highly skilled and its impact on national
development and industrilisation of developing societies; (5) Problem
solving and creativity through encounters of cultural diversity; (6)
