Subpop of the 70s

i must contest the bracketing of time periods into decades - the 
seventies, the sixties, the eighties, the nineties...  perhaps this is 
just a stupid and nonsensical thing to say - but these time frames 
usually cover up some of the more horrific events.... the vietnam war 
was fought between 65 and 75.  is that the sixties or the 
seventies?.... or does it just fade away because it doesn't fit the 
package.  the persistant use of slotting things into 10 year fetishes is 
a real problem... because it creates a mental block around the events 
that occurred in the nether years.  it is a convenient tool and tends to 
have fairly predictable and deadly results.
