The message posted is a little old by now. The message below
specifically addresses its concerns. The original message has indeed
achieved the status of an internet urban legend, which is a great pity
given the otherwise positive uses of the internet for raising awareness
about the situation in Mexico, in which there are certainly grounds for
much concern about human rights and other abuses.
This also points to the fact that it's important to preserve the date of
a message when forwarding it.
Take care
Jon

CENTER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS FRAY BARTOLOME DE LAS CASAS
CLARIFICATION OF FALSE INFORMATION
We have received news that information is circulating in Internet
that the Mexican Army has the city of San Cristobal de las Casas
under seige and that the hospital in Comitan is full of wounded.
This Human Rights Center would like to make it clear that this
information is false. At the present time, the city of San
Cristobal is calm. The meeting of ranchers and small land-holders
that was announced yesterday has failed to materialize.
We shall continue to send information via this medium concerning
what evolves here in the city.
