Folks,
One of our rowers was shot at by two teenage boys with air-rifles
today at 11am while rowing up-stream through grassy corner.
Fortunately she was not hit!
While incidents like this one are rare - because of the seriousness of
this incident, please:
1) Be vigilant! Keep your eyes peeled for potential threats while
rowing. Especially around the trailer-park areas (e.g. grassy corner).
2) Avoid confrontation - its better to row on the wrong side of the
river (provided its clear) to avoid problems on the toe-path than to put
yourself in proximity of thrown/fired objects.
3) If something does happen, or you are under threat: *Get the hell
out of there*.
4) If someone throws something at you - or fires an air gun at you -
that an assault, and you must report it to the police.
5) I and the rest of the committee need to be informed of such
incidents, so that we can communicate them to other clubs, the CRA and
ensure that follow-up is done.
Thank you,
-Brett
